Get a breath of Plein Air!
Plein Air is for everyone from beginning students to professional artists, and focuses on making drawings and paintings in any media on location early in the morning on the weekends.
For current students needing directions to any location, email me your phone number.
What is Plein Air?
Making art en plein aire became popular in the 19th century, when Impressionists left their studios and began painting in the countryside.
Today, artists of all media go outdoors to sketch, color, and photograph subjects where they can capture the landscape, light, and life of a place.
Plein Air is a great social-distancing activity as well as a healthy way to stay creative.
Who is it for?
This ongoing class is for students of all ages and levels who want to learn at a relaxed, open-ended pace.
It is ideal for artists who want to directly create their own original artworks outdoors through active looking rather than copy trends, attend demonstrations, and listen to lectures.
How does it work?
Weekly three-hour classes are $30 each.
You will receive updated class locations weekly from a list of special, hand-picked sites that are both spectacular and provide services like free parking, public restrooms, and seating.
During class days, you will be able to text for help finding locations and getting directions.
Where can I go?
All classes are outdoors and in-person on Oahu and require you to able to walk short distances. Many locations have ramps and walkways suitable for students who need accommodations. Please note: not all sites are ADA-accessible.
Plein Air is held at beach parks, mountain trails, and architectural sites with ample free parking, flat walkways, running water, and bathroom facilities that has been safe and reliable for over 10 years.
Since class is held outdoors, you can use any media, including turpentine!
