What is Outdoor Studio?
For nearly 15 years, I had the privilege to teach on Wednesdays at Linekona, the Honolulu Academy of Arts’ studio center. It continued to offer first-class instruction by highly skilled and eminently educated artists, and was a community resource unparalleled across the islands. During my tenure, it never closed… until Covid.
Now, with the delays in re-opening across the islands, as well as best practices and leading science recommending socially distanced, outside gatherings, I’ve moved my regular studio class outdoors.
In August 2020, HoMArt School announced their reopening target for normal classes is June 2021. This is now delayed until 2022, or beyond.
Who is it for?
My lessons are for students in any stage of their progress and whether you are from a previous course or other instructor, their format will be familiar to you. These lessons are intended as ongoing studio practice for all ages and levels who want to continue open-ended study at a relaxed pace.
How much does it cost?
Each Outdoor Studio session is $30 and can be spent in any way you wish - talking, critiques, art history, and/or demonstrations.

Where do I go for lessons?
Outdoor Studio is held at a centrally located beach park with ample free parking, flat walkways, running water, and bathroom facilities that has been safe and reliable for over 10 years.
Since class is held outdoors, you can use any media, including turpentine!
For students who wish to travel farther afield, please try Plein Air class, where we rotate locations on a bi-weekly basis.
Please note cancellations may be made until 24 hours prior, otherwise you are responsible for your course fees.
COVID-19 requirement: ALL STUDENTS must provide proof of vaccination to attend, and wear masks where and when required by state law.
